The Police is an absurdist play by dissident playwright Slavomir Mrozek, about a police state with such tight social controls that it is running out of people to arrest. A manipulative police chief persuades his sergeant to volunteer himself to be arrested on petty charges, to 'save the department'. But the ruse spins out of control setting the scene for a crazy, climactic finale.

Slavomir Mrozek, Poland's Arthur Miller, spent a great deal of his career in exile in France, Mexico, the US and died in France barely two years ago.
