Thirty years ago, Barbara Dennis was the first African-American woman to be hired as an infirmary nurse at the Erie County Holding Center. She is also the founder of Mothers of Those in Crisis (MOTIC), a family advocacy group dedicated to helping others deal with the pain, sorrow, destruction, and devastation of losing a family member to the criminal justice system. She describes one experience she had while working as a nurse at the facility.
