This past Saturday the organization 'Buffalo For Africa' held its first Women's Conference, at the Rich's Atrium on the scenic Niagara River in Buffalo, NY.   The keynote speaker Maggie Fick - from the Enough Project in Washington, D.C.- spoke about the situation in Sudan, Chad, and the emerging issue of conflict minerals coming out of Congo.  These are minerals that go into our personal computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices.

Other notables at the conference included news anchor Mary Alice Demler, Mary Denisco, and musical performances by the Buffalo Select Chorus and the Orchard Park Drum Ensemble.

John Q Blogger,

Recently there has been an upsurge of using the grand old internet to gather signatures for petitions. I haven't done any extensive research on the subject, I have included the link.

www.petitiononline.com/create_petition.html

ALISON DES FORGES was a human rights activist who specialized in the African Great Lakes region, particularly the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. At the time of her death, she was a senior advisor for the African continent at Human Rights Watch. She died on February 12, 2009, in an air crash, en route from Newark to Buffalo.

How does one get a petition to name the U.S. courthouse in honor of Allison Des Forges into the hands of these women.

We must fight genocide every time it rears up again.

This is the best video post that has been on Artvoice!
