Last November, Syaed Ali's house was raided by Buffalo Police, who carted away 16 bags full of his and his family's possessions: computers, cell phones, bank records, cash—even toiletries. Ali was taken to the local office of the New York State Attorney general and questioned for seven hours—no phone calls to lawyers or family, no arrest warrant, no Miranda rights. His alleged crime: harassing Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown via email.
Three months later, he still has not been charged with a crime and police are still holding on to his possessions. Ali sat down last week to talk to AV about his situation.
